Reiki is a form of alternative therapy. It is known to transfer universal energy from the practitioners’ hand into the body of a patient whose own energy has been stagnated due to physical injury or emotional distress. Known to have a similar concept with that of acupuncture, Reiki is believed to remove energy blocks thereby giving its intended benefits.
The Reiki session can be as short as fifteen minutes but can last for more than one hour. With the patient sitting or lying down comfortably on a bed with clothes on, the Reiki practitioner now places his hands appropriately over 20 different locations throughout your body with no applied pressure. In cases of wounds, the hands may be placed slightly off the body above the wound.
The practice of Reiki is said to have originated in Japan in the 1700th century. It is quite amazing how this ancient practice has transcended into this present century where we have seen the most advanced treatment technologies.
With many forms of Reiki over thousands of years ago, it was in 1922 when Usui Sensei developed his style of Reiki after an alleged mystical experience. With no extensive documentation, the other forms of Reiki have been forgotten while Usui Sensei taught some 2,000 people his version of Reiki which he called Usui Reiki which was brought to the west after WW 2 and became a popular form of alternative therapy until today.
Increasing Number of Believers
According to a survey, there are about 1.2 million Americans who have undergone Reiki treatment in 2007. Also, according to Google search, 68.9 million people say that Reiki works for them with an increasing number of prominent hospitals providing Reiki services.
If this is not proof of the efficiency of Reiki as an alternative form of treatment, its growing popularity is surprising despite the skepticism it is subjected to from some health professionals.
Wide Range of Health Benefits
Reiki advocates swear it can heal many health conditions including psychological and emotional illnesses. For its mental benefits, it is said that it can alleviate stress and depression, enhance relaxation and mental clarity, and boost confidence and creativity. Physical health conditions can be relieved through Reiki such as trauma, chronic pain, cancer, asthma, chronic fatigue, and insomnia.
While there are no researches that can prove Reiki can be an effective alternative treatment for these conditions, it is good to note that Reiki does not make diagnosis and recommend other treatment methods for the patient to undergo or undertake.
Distant healing through Reiki is possible, and it can also be done online. From an ancient treatment procedure to a high-tech healing approach, it is truly a feat to behold. With the concept that human beings are more than just their physical bodies, this is the reason why distant healing or even online healing is possible with Reiki.
The mystery and skepticism about the healing powers of Reiki will never be solved or clarified. But with its mystical tradition, its growing patrons because of its health benefits and distant healing capabilities, Reiki will always be here to stay for us to try and experience it ourselves.
